Essence of Motown Writers Alliance is excited to announce our 2006 Motown Literary Conference, November 10th through 12th, 2006 in Detroit, Michigan at Cobo Hall Center. The mission of this year’s tour is: “To empower the reading community to make a positive change to literacy in Metro Detroit and educate writers in their literary endeavors.” The conference will be a three-day conference, comprised of various events for readers, writers, authors and poets: ! An Urban Literary Affair (Nov 10th, 6:30pm) § Guest Speaker, Eddie Allen, author of The Low Road, an autobiography of the godfather of urban street lit, Donald Goines § Featured national and local authors of urban and erotic books § Donations of money and books to raise for Pro-Literacy of Detroit The Urban Literary Affair will be free to participants but they do ask that you bring a book for donation to Pro-Literacy of Detroit. ! A Full Day of Writing, Publishing, Marketing & Promoting Workshops (Nov 11th, 8am) § Nine different workshops planned to educate writers along with a marketing & promotions lunch with national and local authors. ! An Evening Literary Arts Extravaganza (Nov 11th, 5pm – 10pm) § Multi-genre authors come together for reading, speaking, performance of their material and more! Plus author panel discussions featuring Torrian Ferguson, Victoria Christopher Murray, & Emanuel Carpenter. Included the 3rd Annual Essence of Motown Poetry Slam with recognition for the last two-year champions with special guest, Jessica Care Moore. ! A Half Day of Workshops (Nov 12th, 9am – 1pm) ! Author’s Brunch and Panel Talk on “What’s to Come for Literary in the AA Community” hosted by Karen Dumas (Nov. 12th 3pm). Also presenting the Mayor’s Literary Award to a National Author and Local Author to national author, Carl Webber.
